“I think Tom Kite said "hard is fun". Well, White Horse is the most difficult, most fun golf course I have ever played, and I grew up on a Robert Trent Jones Jr. course. A shot-makers dream design: thoughtful, accurate drives and approaches are rewarded with opportunity. However, a bad hit or poor club selection will ALWAYS find trouble. I heard that during a recent Pro-Am none of the pros broke 80. Take comfort in this fact when the double-bogey count goes up. I doubt anyone in the world has played White Horse under par. The staff is really friendly. The practice facility is great too.”

-Joseph G. Sekiu, WA

Editors note: At the 2009 Michelob Western Washington Chapter PGA Pro-Member Series on June 1, twelve pros scored under 80. There were three par scores of 72 and one pro scored 70.  You can check out the scores at:  http://pnwpga.com/wwc/wwcwhitehorse.htm

" We played White Horse for the first time 24 Sep 2009.
Conditions were superb.   Greens were relatively speedy for Western
Washington but putted true and were a delightful test. On the occasions
that I found them, the fairways offered great lies, though often with
challenging stances.  Still, I never had the feeling of being cheated on a
good shot the way I have at say, Harbour Pointe.  It's definitely a place
you will feel you'll play better the second time.  I've heard it stands up
great to our drizzly fall/winters and hope to test that out soon.
Despite owning up to  20+ handicaps,  we opted for the blue tees since the
yardage seemed within our playable limits.  That decision probably only
cost us a ball or two each.  Who cares!?  The scenery and layout are as
nice as advertised; I'm recommending it to all my tunnel-visioned Metro
Seattle golf buddies.  Finally, I probably shouldn't mention it for
selfish reasons, but we played it our own pace since tee times were
available on both sides of us."

-Neal J. Shoreline, WA

"No other course can offer a better combination of experience, challenge and value.  Great staff with a well maintained course.  Bring your game as club and shot selection are key at White Horse.  Memorable experience and highly recommened.  I'll be back!"

-Doug S.  Maple Valley, WA

" We played your course yesterday morning June 4th, 2009 and loved
it.  The course was very scenic and very enjoyable to play.  Later that
afternoon my friend and I played Chambers Bay and even though Chambers Bay
was quite scenic, we felt it was over rated and the condition of their
greens were inadequate.

We preferred White Horse better.  A special shout out to Bruce Christy your
Director of Golf for taking excellent care of us while we were purchasing
golf clubs for my daughter and merchandise for other members of our
family.  Bruce we expect you to come visit us in Phoenix."

-Guy P.  Phoenix, Arizona

"Not only is the course demanding; it is absolutely beautiful and very well maintained.  I would absolutely recommend White Horse to anyone who likes a challenge!"

-Kim B.  Olympia, Washington

"I have played White Horse 2 times now and it has become my favorite course in Washington.  I think it is better than Chambers Bay regardless of price.  However, when price is factored in, there is no comparison!  It is very challenging, but rewards good golf shots.  I will definitely become a regular!  Very friendly staff and excellent practice facilities."

-Lars H.  Seattle, Washington

"I loved your golf course; I think that once your greens mature you will have one of the best courses in the Pacific Northwest. The day before I played White Horse I played Chambers Bay and I think you have the better course and I'm a total links guy. By the way my home course is named Black Horse/Bayonet. Cheers and I'll be telling all my golf buddies about White Horse."

-Gene B. Seaside, California

"Our 1st time at your course was this past weekend.  White Horse is the most challenging course I have played in Washington.  The course was beautiful and breathtaking.  My friends and I talked about it for days and about when we are going to play again.  To all the staff, thank you for your courtesy.  We will see you soon."

-Don S. Kenmore, Washington

"I have enjoyed your course twice and for my money it is one of the best courses I have ever played.  From tee to when the ball falls into the cup it gives you nothing.  Every shot, including putts, require thought.  I will be back."

-Jack M. Qualicum Beach, British Columbia

"We recently played your course and were instantly impressed.  From the friendly staff, to one of the best practice ranges, and then from the 1st tee box . . . the course only got better from there.  Our group enjoyed it more than Chambers Bay. We will definitely be back."

-Samuel K. Montclair, New Jersey

"White Horse is like an oasis in the trees.  The course conditions were fantastic.  Well worth the drive from anywhere.  The back nine allows players to make up hard earned strokes from the challenging front nine."

-Justin G. LakeTapps, Washington

"What a great golf course!!  Best golf course I've ever played.  I loved it so much I called my friends on the way home and a few days later I even made a tee time for them.  I am sure they will enjoy your beautiful golf course and your friendly staff.  I will be back soon."

-Kevin Y. Auburn, Washington

"Beauty and a beast! PGA quality all the way. I love the shuttle service you provide from the ferry, and it's the best value in the state."

-David R. Mountlake Terrace, Washington

“This was the best course I have played this year. This was the first time I had played bent greens in the northwest. Hole #12 from the championship tees is one of the most difficult holes I have ever played. I would love to play here every weekend if I could.”

-Scott B. Kent, Washington

“I hope Ms. McGarey is getting the respect she deserves from other architects and golf course developers. If you're on your game, you'll have the time of your life. And if you're a bit off that day, you can entertain yourself by stopping to admire the intelligence and creativity of the design. Throw in the reasonable price, the superb conditions, and the professionalism of the staff---it gets my vote for the best course in the Puget Sound region.”

-George D. Lynnwood, Washington

"White Horse, in my mind, is one of the best lay-outs I have ever played.  No two holes look similar.  The par threes are unbelievable.  The par fives are risk/reward.  And the par fours are an incredible mix of challenging holes and rewarding holes.  I was impressed with the way the golf course rewarded good shots and punished a poor shot.  The setting is truly something special.  I can't wait to play it again. The practice facility is completely mind blowing.  There isn't a shot in golf that you couldn't teach or practice.”

-Brian F. Kenmore, Washington

"What an awesome course. My four-some played from the white tees,  mainly because several of us are not long hitters. Length is not  everything. With the natural hazards and numerous sand traps, it was a  great challenge. I played Chambers Bay last month, but I enjoyed White Horse MUCH more. It is definitely worth the trip."

-Roger W. Kent, Washington

"My group plays all the good tracks in western Washington with a high handicap of 8 and a low +2. We all agree that in the classic Northwest vernacular of forest courses, this is by far the most original interpretation, and is the equal of Chambers Bay as best course in the state. In terms of what course offers the most challenge to the low handicap golfer, White Horse comes out on top."

-Rob H. Seattle, Washington

"Today is the 6th of December; we all know what the weather was like and the amount of moisture we received this last weekend. I have played White Horse many times but was curious to see how it would play only a few days after the area took such a horrible (snow, rain and wind) beating. Well, if you're a year around golfer in the Pacific Northwest, this is a course that you need to look at. There was no standing water, I never had to bump or place my ball and the greens were smooth and in great shape. No temporary tees, no temporary greens, no plugging balls, nothing but a great December golfing experience (although a bit on the chilly side).

Kudos to the designers and grounds crew for creating and maintaining a track that can be played and enjoyed year round.

"What a great course. I will definitely be back to play more."

- Glenn H. Federal Way, WA

"I played the course on June 30th. 2007. What an amazing test of golf. I'm a 5 handicap and I hit every club in my bag. The staff was very pleasant to their customer and our group had a very good time. I played Chambers Bay the day before and you have a much better course in my opinion and half the price. Thanks for the chance to play your wonderful layout and I will be back to give it another shot."

- Terry G. Issaquah, WA

"The overall experience of your course and staff was memorable. I have recommended it to several of my buds there in Seattle."

- Bill D. Anchorage, AK

"Our foursome had a Great time Friday on your terrific new track. Keep the shuttle running and we'll sail back again soon."

- Jeff T. Bellevue, WA

"Very unique design. Fairways are challenging as are the elevated greens."

- Don J. Lacey, WA

"You have the greatest new golf course to be built in Washington State in a long time. It reminds me of a golf course that I play here in Mt. Vernon named Eaglemont, only narrower. I loved your course and am anxious to play it again soon. I hope Golf Digest and Golf Week hear about you. You should get some kind of award for best new course in Washington State."

- David C. Mt. Vernon, WA

"Excellent Course. Good layout. Beautiful greens etc."

- Tom W. Bellevue, WA

"I love the course. It was great. Very challenging and very difficult. I had a great time and will definitely be back soon."

- Jeremy C. Silverdale, WA

"Course is still developing but looks like it will be a real beauty very soon. Lots of tough sand traps protect the greens. A pleasant round."

- Paul M. Carmichael, CA

"We just played the course for the first time today. WOW! My butt is kicked. A gorgeous, fair and totally involving test of golf. As a lefty, the course plays tough on downhill lies but I LOVED IT!!! Will be back again soon."

- Eric P. Lake forest Park, WA

"A great course. Loved playing it. I'll come back soon."

- Dave F. Kirkland, WA

"I loved playing golf on the White Horse Golf Course. I'll be back for sure."

- Kenny B. Seattle, WA

“I recently visited my brother in Bremerton and we played White Horse.  What a fabulous and demanding golf course.  One of the best golf courses I have played in 24 years of golf.  I was told that White Horse will someday be a private course only.  This would be a shame.  Keep it public so every level of golfer can enjoy it.  I recently recommended it to a friend who is traveling to Seattle.  Thank you.”

- Kerry J. Pompano Beach, FL

"Beat me up royally. But the challenge is great, which  promotes focus.  Requires good shots to score.  When I decide to move I will be looking in your area. Played many enjoyable years at Sahalee, and WH is certainly in that class."

-Nels P. Sammamish, WA

"I have played your course 4 times now and I am convinced it will  be top 5 in the State once it is discovered. Also I am a range rat and  your range facility is my favorite in this state. Keep up the good work."

-Jeff W.  Poulsbo, Washington
